7 years prison for fake CNIC holders, says Ch. Nisar

Interior Minister of Pakistan, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, is not going to tolerate any nonsense against the corruption of fake CNICs possessed by the locals or even foreigners. He said that the process of re-verification of 180 million Pakistanis will be carried out within next 6 months. He warned all the fake ID holders with a stern statement that anyone holding fake ID will be jailed for up to 7 years.

Pakistan has been in the news of late for all the wrong reasons. This decision was taken after the death in US drone strike of Afghan Taliban Commander, Mullah Akhtar Mansour, in Baluchistan where a CNIC and Passport of Pakistani origin was discovered at the site.

Talking to media at the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) headquarters, Chaudhry Nisar said that as many as 25 million families would be targeted in this exercise for the easier verification process. During this process, the head of the family would be required to expose the bad egg and report it to NADRA.

While speaking to media, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar also showed some leniency to the fake CNIC holders as he issued them all a deadline of two months to surrender their fake CNIC otherwise they will be facing a penalty of as many as 7 years in jail.

Chaudhry Nisar also explained any Government official involved in supplying fake ID cards would be severely penalized and would be sent to jail for 14 years. He stated that:

“I will personally monitor the exercise. Nobody will be spared. I was told that it is an impossible task and would cost a lot of money but the issue was related to Pakistan’s security and I would make it possible just like the verification of millions of mobile phone SIMS”

Interior Minister of Pakistan, Chaudhry Nisar, also announced rewards for individuals who will help in providing valid information of foreigners living in Pakistan illegally on a fake CNIC. A helpline in this regard will also be set up for citizens to help authorities in tracing foreigners with Pakistani identity.

It would be extremely important to see how things proceed in the near future as this issue has become really serious especially in Chaudhry Nisar’s viewpoint. Severe and stern measures have been taken in the larger interest of the country from the Government of Pakistan. It would be highly encouraging if the people of Pakistan respond to this cause in a cordial manner.
