Anusha Rahman formally handed over 4G license to Telenor Pakistan

The Minister for Information Technology (IT) and Telecom, Mrs. Anusha Rahman has formally handed over the technology neutral 4G license for the 10 MHz of frequency spectrum 850 MHz to ex-CEO of Telenor Pakistan, Mr. Michael Foley.

Couple of weeks ago, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) had issued official license to Telenor for 4G spectrum. However, this was a ‘license awarding ceremony’ which was held at Ministry of IT and Telecommunications yesterday.

The license would enable Telenor to officially launch their 4G services in Pakistan. By doing so, they will become 3rd operator of 4G in the country.

Ex-CEO of Telenor Pakistan, Mr. Michael Foley lauded the efforts of Mrs. Anusha Rahman for her initiatives towards increasing the overall digital ecosystem in Pakistan. While addressing the ceremony, he further added:

“Telenor is committed to supporting Pakistan’s efforts to become a digitally developed nation. Driven by our vision of empowering societies, our success to date has been built on a simple realization: mobile communication, financial services and internet are not luxury goods for the few; they are for everyone”

Appreciation for Telenor Pakistan

Heaps of praises were showered for Telenor from various executives after they formally acquired 4G license.

Mrs. Anusha Rahman congratulated Telenor Pakistan after handing over them an award. Moreover, she also stated that Telenor has played an important role in the sector in past few years.

Secretary IT and Telecom, Mr. Rizwan Bashir Khan also acknowledged Telenor Pakistan for winning the auction. He also valued the efforts of his team for carrying out successful and transparent spectrum auction.

Chairman PTA Abdul Samad, members (telecom, legal, IT and HR), senior officials from FAB and MoIT were also present in license awarding ceremony. The newly-appointed CEO of Telenor Pakistan, Irfan Wahab Khan was also present on the occasion.
