Baby Planet Another Shooting Start-up From Pakistan

Pakistani startups are creating an unlikely buzz in the ‘funding’ news after a few startups managed to get a hefty amount of funding, notable among them being zameen.com. But, we have another ecommerce startup, Baby Planet, which has managed to raise seed funding to provide further leverage to their product.

The founder of Baby Planet did not reveal the actual amount of the funding, but hinted at it being in 6 figures and in USD. By conservative estimate this could mean they have managed to raise at least 100,000 and this could go up to USD 999,999!

The number is not as important as the fact that Pakistani startups are now impressing the world with their products.

Baby Planet, a Mothers Paradise

Baby Planet claims that it is Pakistan’s first online store that sells a huge range of products for kids. They showcase various popular brands and have almost everything under the great big sun that you might need for your baby son (or daughter)!

Baby Planet is also positioned at to-be-mothers by stocking on many maternity products. As is standard, you can order online and get your products delivered to your house.

Poised for growth and expansion

Baby Planet is on a mission to expand and grow. The seed funding is proof that Baby Planet is on the move for a higher mantle. They have a long list of investors with many having direct ecommerce experience. Their investors include:

  1. Yasser Bashir, ofArbisoft,
  2. Romana Abdullah,of High Point Ventures,
  3. Umair Javed, of TkXel
  4. Raza Saeed, of PakWheels.

The plan has been ironed out and the investments will be used by Baby Planet to bolster their marketing, outreach and human resource.

Founder and CEO of Baby Planet, Mr. Irfan Khan, had a vision to build Baby Planet into an exclusive brand for child and maternity products. “We want to be the first and foremost choice for parents when they are looking to buy something for their kids. This investment can help us achieve that. We are a small team of 15. We currently have offices in Karachi and Lahore. Soon we will be operational in Islamabad,” he said.

According to Mr. Irfan, the monthly sales figures are currently in 4 digits and will soon be touching the 5 digit marks.

Today, if you take stock there are many e-commerce stores in Pakistan selling a huge range of items and giving people a variety of choice. Although this should promote healthy competition in an increasingly competitive market one can argue that it is better to specialize and maintain exclusivity.

We are full of hope for Baby Planet and we believe if they can keep up with their customers’ orders and concentrate on bettering their marketing they are bound to reach new heights in the near future.
