Battery woes for Samsung continue as Galaxy S7 edge burns in Philippines

Samsung is currently going through a torrid time. Their battery woes continue as Galaxy S7 edge burns in the Philippines as reported by Weng Briones in her Facebook post. Earlier this month, there was a similar incident that got reported when Galaxy S7 edge exploded in an individual’s pocket in New Jersey.

Incident and reaction of Samsung

Mr. Weng from the Philippines claimed that while her daughter was using Galaxy S7 edge, it started to heat up and emitting smoke. Subsequently, they immediately exhibited presence of mind by immediately splashing water on the phone. Later, they covered the smartphone with a wet towel before finally stepping on to it.

The father of concerned daughter immediately reported the incident to Samsung. The tech giant initially offered to replace the smartphone with the new one without any charges. However, the owner wanted their money back since they were afraid of similar incident happening again. Upon the request, Samsung refund the concerned party in full, that too, on the spot.

Despite the incident, Samsung gets praise

Following is the message that was posted by the affected user, Weng Briones on Facebook:

“We went to Samsung store at SM City Taytay and they have refunded my money in full. Kudos to all the staff of Samsung SM Taytay for their immediate action regarding my issue. In spite of the unfortunate incident, I am however, impressed by their aftersales-support. Much respect to Samsung. Keep safe everyone”

There was one such incident that took place in US when the victim, Daniel Ramirez sued Samsung after he suffered “permanent and life-altering injuries, requiring skin grafts on his leg” due to the phone’s explosion. The reaction and response of Samsung regarding this issue is yet to be seen.

Samsung phones are the most popular Android handsets in the market. However, the latest incidents involving the battery will make users think twice before buying a Samsung smartphone.

The tech company is in the news because of faulty batteries for the past few months. Samsung will have to make sure that such incidents do not take place in the future otherwise there are chances that they might go on to lose a large chunk of reliable and loyal customer base.
