First Ever Voice-Based Navigation Software in Urdu – TPL Maps And NUST Behind The Wheel

In collaboration with School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences (SEECS) at the National University of Science and Technology (NUST), TPL Maps has announced to launch a voice-based navigation in Urdu language for TPL Maps. They made the proclamation at NUST campus, Islamabad.

How Will The Software Help?

TPL’s new software will empower consumers to develop route through simple voice commands. In a statement released by the company, it read:

“Considering the in-app typing proficiencies and spelling errors, this feature will be a game changer for usage of map applications in Pakistan”

This feature is armed with an ability to handle voice commands in various dialects of English and Urdu, generally prevalent in Pakistani language speaking styles. Moreover, the voice-based navigation system will be connected as a value added service to the existing TPL Maps application.

The latest addition of this technology in TPL Maps application will guarantee a fine user interface which will enable users to include their location through on-screen keyboard. The system will then compute the route along with the transit time.

Statements By Executives

While talking about the collaboration for the human-based speech navigation system, Head of the TPL Maps, Adeel Hashmi said:

“Consistent innovation is integral to our philosophy of providing customers the best possible mapping solutions. Such additions to our existing products allow us to establish ourselves as a high-end technology company; looking to offer convenience and ease of use to the end users”

At the time of inking the deal, Principal of SEECS stated:

“We are delighted to be part of the innovation in Maps in Pakistan. This collaboration with TPL has given our students and faculty the opportunity to experiment and explore a domain that has never been touched upon in Pakistan. Furthermore, machine learning and AI are the future of technology. We believe this is the first partnership between the two organizations which will result in fantastic tech development in the country”

It is noteworthy that this is the first time such feature is being launched in Pakistan. Despite the challenging nature of functionality, the new technology will be offering voice-based service suited for both the Urdu and the Pakistani English accent. Subsequently, it will add creativity into the product besides giving TPL Maps an edge over its competitors.
