At last after great use and abuse, the free 3G trial services provided by the pioneer telecom company, Mobilink, has been shifted from freeloading to paying according to designated packages, as defined by the company. Mobilink has withdrawn the free facility of 3G Internet services, which was previously being provided to its valuable customers at zero charges. This announcement of withdrawal of free services was announced on Monday.
The particularly gifted post-paid customers were sprinkled with this benediction of free 3G Internet services ever since the advent of 3G Internet packages launched in Pakistan. Mobilink had only launched its free 3G Internet services for its post-paid customers, and packages for the prepaid customers were announced in the very beginning of this service being available. This sort of a discriminatory attitude by the telecom industry is condemned, as it portrays the hierarchy of class structure inherent in Pakistan.
This free offer by Mobilink was offered free for the lengthiest period in history of telecom sector in Pakistan, which I’m sure the post-paid customers relished and took full advantage of it. As all good things have to end, so does this free ride, which is why access to the Mobilink free 3G trial for its post-paid subscribers will be revoked today. All prepaid customers and post-paid business customers were already paying for Mobilink 3G services, but now rest of the privileged post-paid customers will also pay their fair share for Internet usages, because the free ride is over.
Mobilink Business is an integral part of the company’s subscriber structure, and it has launched its own Internet 3G packages. Mobilink has announced 3G data plan for its committed customers. The plan is divided into Plan Pro and Plan Control.
Post-Paid Control Data Plans are as follows:
1GB of Mobilink Internet 3G services would cost the customer: Rs.200.
5GB of Mobilink Internet 3G services would cost the customer: Rs.800.
Post-Paid Pro Data Plans are as follows:
1GB of Mobilink Internet 3G services would cost the customer: Rs.200.
2GB of Mobilink Internet 3G services would cost the customer: Rs.400.
5GB of Mobilink Internet 3G services would cost the customer: Rs.800.
10GB of Mobilink Internet 3G services would cost the customer: Rs.1200.
On the other hand, customers who may not be interested in getting the complete monthly package may as well get the ‘pay as you use option’ offered by Mobilink for its esteemed customers. Mobilink would charge its subscribers Rs. 18 per MB, but data charges won’t be applicable after abundant use of the service.
