Revolutionary projects including Gwadar Airport and Eastern Expressway to begin this year

The revolutionary projects of building Eastern Expressway and the Gwadar International Airport will begin this year. These projects will be performed besides the supply and distribution of fresh water.

The officials at the Ministry of Planning, Development and Reforms declared:

“We have completed all the formalities in this regard while Chinese authorities are likely to complete their work soon to kick-start these projects”

As many as Rs 4.7 billion for Eastern Expressway, 1.5 for Gwadar International Airport and 1 billion for fresh water treatment, supply and distribution had been distributed for the Gwadar section of Public Sector Development Program (PSDP).

The PC-1 of the Eastern Expressway consists of a 19 KM road having six lanes with two-way railway tracks. This part of the program had been sanctioned on 12th January last year by Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC).

The first part of the expressway will connect Gwadar Port with the Mehran Coastal Highway in the first phase and with the Gwadar International Airport in the second one. This road will provide a smooth and quick travel without any disturbance.

The official sources further said:

“An amount of Rs 13.543 billion would be funded through the government of China’s confessional loan whereas Rs 0.519 billion would be arranged through local component”

This year’s PSPD have stored Rs 4.7 billion for this project. The officials also informed that the Chinese Government had decided to offer interest-free loan for the project.

According to the structure of G2G, narrow bidding was made to select the Chinese company.

Additional projects

In order to provide smooth power supply to Gwadar, the establishment of power station would also begin soon. The approval for this project had already been given by the Prime Minister as stated by the officials.

A dual-fuel technology-oil and LNG will be used to operate the 100-MW power station. Moreover, a water filtration plant would also be built at the Gwadar to overcome the problem of supplying fresh water.

Under the influence of China- Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), these projects would prove to be a good fortune. It will also give rise to a new era of development in the province. In addition, universities in Zhob, Turbat and Gwadar will be recognized, providing the youth of Baloch to focus on higher education.

In order to overcome unemployment, occupational institutes had been established to train the youth technically.
