Are you stuck at home with nothing to do? Are your friends bickering about how you guys never do anything fun or new anymore? It’s not easy keeping track of what events are on in your city, or for that matter even finding out if there is anything going on. Word of mouth, Facebook invites and newspaper ads are sporadic at best, and outdated at worst. These have become a thing of the past, now that happening.pk is here.
Happening.pk
Happening.pk is a new website that provides up to date information about events going on in your area. It is an online portal that is “more than just a list of events, and something that adds value in a way that is simple, clean and one that just works!” Happening.pk is envisioned as an online destination that does more than just show what is happening where, by also showing events that are important and which people need to take notice about.
What It Has
There is something for everyone, ranging from arts and culture to IT and tech events, and fashion. Aside from these, their list of event type includes: cinema and film, competitions, concerts and musical events, upcoming conferences, exhibitions, festivals, sporting events, theatre, food and several others.
Where It Is Available
The service that happening.pk provides is currently available for Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Faisalabad and Peshawar. This gives it a bit of an edge over other competitors such as KiaSceneHai.pk who may be better established, because of the wider range of cities it covers.
The service is still useful for people living outside these areas, because if you’re planning a trip to one these cities, you can see what’s on and plan your trip accordingly.
Besides KiaSceneHai.pk, some of the other competitors of happening.pk include pakupcomingevents.com and karachisnob.com. Other sites such as showtimes.pk are restricted to showing and booking cinema tickets only. Another cinema times app is bookme.pk, though this service intends to eventually move on to providing booking services for anything and everything.
Still Developing
According to their website, the founders at happening.pk are “working towards building a ‘happening-discovery-portal’, we’re putting together a new experience of discovering things that are worth while to you.”
Happening.pk was launched on March 16th. For a website that started quite recently, it has made an impressive start. However, it is still developing and there is some space for further development, as they have indicated that “This is just the first step in building a complete experience.”
There are definitely more things they could add to their site. For example, if the service also included booking seats or perhaps even purchasing tickets to some or all of the events listed, it would make things that much easier.
Mini Ventures
Happening.pk was launched by Mini Ventures, which is a seed fund based in Pakistan that is contributing towards the development of an eco-system that supports the development of startups. According to their website, “Mini Ventures aims to select promising entrepreneurs and startups that are at an early stage and that can visibly benefit from what we offer.”
Mini Ventures was started “by local young and long-time entrepreneurs, seasoned businessmen, trainers, Mini Ventures hope to put a small dent in the local “entrepreneurial” universe.” One of these is Faizan Laghari (@faizanlaghari), who founded Mini Ventures. A tech-entrepreneur, he has considerable experience in this industry and has also been behind Suite401, Textually, and Viaduct.
According to The AppJuice, Faizan Laghari spoke about the new services available at happening.pk and said, “We strive to be the NO.1 event site in the country. We are confident our constant value addition and marketing efforts will help Happening.pk stand strong in the market for a long time. We’re here to make it big!”
Happening.pk is a service that will make everyone’s social lives a little easier and is definitely a service worth checking out. Given that this service is still quite new, it has the potential to grow even further and perhaps spread to other cities around Pakistan as well.
