Healthwire and Wopiz merge to help patients find specialized doctors in Pakistan

Two healthcare startups, Healthwire and Wopiz have joined hands to accomplish their common goal. Both the startups formed a strategic merger to improve and enhance the state of healthcare in Pakistan. The startup will now be working as one entity under Healthwire. It is all about empowering patients by helping them book instant appointments with the best doctors.

While talking to Techjuice, the founder of Healthwire Hamza Iqbal appreciated Wopiz role in merging with the company. He further stated:

“Wopiz had good on-ground traction and Healthwire has penetrated the market very well. Therefore, we were ideally placed for a merger. We are also very happy to set a positive precedent in the startup ecosystem of Pakistan by completing the first merger of any two startups that we know off”

Shehbaz Bashir and Aamir Mughal were the co-founders of Wopiz. However, they have now joined Healthwire executive team as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chief Technology Officer (CTO). The founder of Healthwire Hamza Iqbal will be working as Chief Marketing Officer in new merged startup.

Healthwire was formed by 4 students from Lahore University of Management Science (LUMS). The brains behind the startup, Haris Durani, Hamza Iqbal, Saad Riaz and Hamza Imran initiated this idea while keeping in mind Pakistan’s inadequate healthcare system.

The notion for the startup was first conceived when one of the co-founders found it difficult to get a good dentist in Lahore. He was left helpless even after asking common people. He realized that there must be plenty of people around who must in dire need of good doctors. As a result, he along with 3 other partners formed Healthwire which focuses on connecting patients with dentists in Lahore. On the other hand, Wopiz was launched in October last year. The startup aimed to help patients discover the specialized doctors in their area and get appointments instantly. With the merger, it is expected that Healthwire will be covering a wider range of healthcare providers.
