Mobile phones play a significant role in everyone’s life especially in the tech-dominated era. Most of the users, particularly in our part of the world, carry two or even three smartphones with them. Subsequently, Pakistan is importing mobile phones in bulk to meet the needs of the customers. As a result, sharp increase of 4.23% is noticed during fiscal year 2015-16.
The current fiscal year observed an upsurge of $30.601 million in the import of mobile phones in the country. The data revealed the rise in the import of mobile phones by 4.23%.
According to the data revealed by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), Pakistan imported cell phones worth $722.622 million during FY 2014-15. However, import of mobile phones raised by $30.601 in this FY 2015-16 as the worth rose to $753.223 million.
If we go by month-wise data for mobile phones import, it surged by 27.09% in June last month. The imports in the month of May 2016 were recorded at $51.911 million.
Now if we compare year-wise data, it showed rapid decline in the import of cellphones. The imports in June 2015 were $68.809 million and it exposed a sharp decline of 4.12% as compared to $65.974 million in June 2016.
Telecom imports exhibit deterioration
The total telecom import revealed a decline of 0.86% and it went down by a $0.012 billion worth. The overall telecom import was $1.377 billion during FY 2014-15 as compared to $1.365 billion during 2015-16.
However, the month-on-month data showed rise in telecom import. An increase of 9.47% was noted for the total telecom import in June 2016 against the imports of May 2016. Moreover, the year-on-year import for total telecom import uncovered a deterioration of 3.05%.
