The usage of free Wi-Fi is on the rise in India. Google and internet provider RailTel offers free Wi-Fi service to as many as 23 train stations in India. According to a report of The Economic Times, the country is obsessed with watching porn at the railway stations. As far as the ranking goes, Patna railway station topped the chart in terms of highest searches for porn sites.
The data was collected from the railway stations. In a report, it was discovered that the internet was used mostly to find porn. While confirming the data, an official of RailTel, a mini-Ratna public sector undertaking (PSU), stated:
“More than any other railway station in the country, where free Wi-Fi service was launched, the Patna railway station is on the top in the country for using internet search, particularly search for porn sites”
In terms of internet usage at the stations, Jaipur, Bengaluru and New Delhi followed Patna, though details were not shared about the sites that were particularly and frequently searched.
According to the Railway Minister of India Suresh Prabhu, the government is planning to introduce free Wi-Fi service at all major railway stations in the country in next 3 years. He stated:
“By this year-end, free Wi-Fi facility will be launched at 100 major railway stations. We will achieve our target of 400 stations in three years. Once in place, it will be the largest public Wi-Fi system in the world”
Increasingly low-priced smartphones
One of the primary reasons of accessing internet so frequently is the evolution of smartphones. They are inexpensive and affordable. As a result, thousands of people in India access internet at public places. The people of India are not yet familiar with the notion of free Wi-Fi yet; however, they are on track of it.
The phenomena of using free Wi-Fi is not limited to India only. There are Wi-Fi kiosks that are placed in New York train stations too. However, they were closed last month due to excessive wandering around the booth as people used to stay busy while watching porn in public.
Watching porn is a private choice of an individual but watching it in public is alarming as it could botheration for the passengers and pedestrians who are standing beside you in a bus or sitting next to you at a certain location.
