KITE startup challenge opens doors for three startups to represent in Norway

The Karachi institute of Technology and Entrepreneurship (KITE) is organizing a startup competition in September to promote innovative talent. The winners will be given a fully sponsored trip to participate in Oslo Innovation Week to be held in October. In addition, they will also be rewarded with a golden opportunity to meet investors and get incubated.

The KITE-Oslo Startup Challenge (KOSC) is all set to boost growing entrepreneurial spirit in Pakistan by giving a chance to innovators. It aims to bring a positive change in the country by supporting small startups to expand their reach in the country. Likewise, their objective is to provide a platform to entrepreneurs of Pakistan to compete for an opportunity for pitching their startups at the Oslo Innovation week.

KOSC is primarily sponsored by KITE and is being organized in collaboration with the city of Oslo and the Startup Lab. Other sponsors include Telenor and IKT-Norge, a key interest group in Norwegian ICT industry.

The winners will be bestowed with complete support from a broad business network, pro-bono development services and a chance to connect with Norwegian investors. Subsequently, Startup Lab, being a Norwegian incubator, will also give one month fully paid incubation to the winners.

If you are already running an progressive startup that could be turned into a successful entity, you should undoubtedly apply. Interestingly, your idea doesn’t have to meet existing industry standards. If its creative and feasible as a business entity, nothing should prevent you from participating in this challenge.

You need to register yourself through a Google form. Furthermore, you will also need to attach a short video pitch of your idea and a concept note for initial screening.

Have a look at the simple eligibility criteria for this competition:

1. The participant should be a resident of Pakistan
2. The participant should be working full-time on this startup for the past six months
3. There should be a participating team of not more than 3 members.

The KITE challenge details

The KITE-Oslo Startup challenge will commence on 9th and 10th of September, from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. It will be held at KITE’s campus in Karachi. The entire event will comprise of five rounds. Once the applications are submitted, chosen participants will submit their plans by 5th September. During round three, they will give elevator pitches in front of a panel of judges.

Lastly, each shortlisted team will be given a chance for a 15 minute detailed pitch to elaborate their idea further. Finally, the judges will select three finalists lucky ones who will go to Oslo to participate in the final challenge.
