Mark Zuckerberg impressed by a Pakistani Startup, Club Internet

Club Internet is a Pakistani tech startup which is geared towards social enterprising. It was founded with an aim to connect 4.3 billion of the earth’s population to the internet using web literacy campaign and social platforms. Interestingly, the amount of people who do not use Internet in the world is the same. The start-up was incubated at Plan X and the Social Innovation Lab.

Club Internet was founded in 2014 by business graduates and engineers namely Sophia Pervez, Shahbaz Ali Khan, Fahad Rao and the chief architect, Hassan Baig. The notion of the startup was to make Internet life easier especially for those who did not know about its usage. After the launch, the startup began to gain popularity and it became largely possible after their initial success with projects related to Internet.

It is the first Pakistani startup which was invited by the founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, for a closed-door meeting at the recent F8 Conference in San Francisco. Representatives from 10 other tech companies (namely Amazon, Tesla, Tinder etc) were also present in the meeting.

The resolution of the meeting was to discuss future technologies and come up with ways to evolve the current technology for the emerging markets. Revolving around Facebook’s recent agenda, Mark Zuckerberg was specially focused on techniques which would help connect the remaining population to the Internet.

Hassan Baig, the brains behind the startup, while talking to Mark Zuckerberg presented an example of Pakistan where Club Internet had seen great potential when its solutions had been used by the hitherto unconnected. He also revealed his vision for a world where all would use cyber technology at a greater intellectual level. If steps are taken in the right direction, then the day is not too far when technology will become an extension of human intelligence for all individuals the world over, he added.

Mark Zuckerberg who was already impressed with the startup showered tremendous praise on the intellectual capital Club Internet that had brought to global connectivity over the last two years. Mark also shed some light on Facebook’s insights on global connectivity and how they could be complemented by those of Club Internet’s. Hassan Baig’s vision would go a long way in defining how Facebook will approach global connectivity in the future, Mark added.

Mark admitted that he and his team had been following Club Internet’s research and development initiatives for a while. After a successful meeting at F8 Conference in San Francisco, both Hassan Baig and Mark Zuckerberg pledged to further brace their collaboration.
