Mobilink leads the Pack in Quantity and Quality – PTA

“Over the past year we have invested a sizeable chunk of our profits back in to network up gradation, thus it is good to see our endeavors have surpassed the industry’s benchmarks.” The Quality of Service results published by Pakistan Telecommunications Authority are proof of Mobilink’s commitment to the provision of high-end services to customers across the country.” Jeffrey Hedberg, CEO & President – Mobilink

These comments by the CEO of Mobilink come at the heels of Pakistan Telecommunications Authority’s (PTA) recent industry report released by the governing body.

The report clearly states that Mobilink is the number one telecom provider in the country and has in the last year further strengthened its position as the market leader. The report not only claims that Mobilink is number one in terms of numbers, but it states that Mobilink is numero uno both qualitatively and quantitatively.

It is not news that Mobilink has the largest subscriber base in the country, i.e. approximately 36.21 million customers, including an estimated 7.2 million users of their recently launched 3G service; however, the report also shows us that Mobilink is the fastest growing 3G network in the country.

Mobilink synonymous with quality?

Contrary to general perception, Mobilink is ranked quite high on the PTA’s annual Quality of Service (QoS) survey. It has managed to surpass almost all key performance indicators set by the industry regulator.

In the voice category of the PTA’s QoS, under the network downtime test, Mobilink achieved a 0.23% score which is the least in the industry. This is reflective of Mobilink’s network durability across the country. In addition to this, Mobilink achieved a Call Connection Time of 5.04 seconds, indicative of the average connection time of calls on Mobilink’s network.

Mobilink was also on top in every criteria of 3G KPIs in the survey. Its average download speed was 4,044 Kbps & 3,174 Kbps on HTTP and FTP servers respectively all across the country, which backs Mobilink’s claim of having the fastest 3G network in the country.

Mr. Jeffery was all praise for his team and congratulated them upon maintaining the number one position in the PTA’s report in terms of subscribers. He did however, say, “for us, the number one tag does not mean we sit back and enjoy the fruits of our labor, but is a motivator to continue exceeding all consumer and regulator expectations.”

Mobilink has invested quite a lot in the recent past to achieve such accolades. It invested in:

  • Provision of HD voice calls
  • Network expansion to the north of the country, and…
  • Upgrading its network to state of the art 100 Gbps Optical Transport Network.

This goes to show that Mobilink has put in a lot of effort to sustain its lead in a cut throat market where margins are shrinking day by day. It also shows that Mobilink is investing in its infrastructure to maintain a certain level of quality, which is why it is seen reaping the benefits today.
