New leaks exhibit that NSA may have hacked at least 4 Pakistani ISPs

A group which is known as Shadow Brokers has revealed a new leak in which they have claimed that National Security Agency (NSA) has hacked more than 100 IP addresses of various organizations over the last decade. As a result, 4 Pakistani ISPs have also been targeted in the latest attack from NSA as they are a part of latest leak list.

Surprisingly, China, India, Russia and Pakistan are also affected. Moreover, most of the nodes are located overseas probably to make it difficult for everyone to realize that the attacked was launched through their network.

Pakistani ISPs compromised

The ISPs which are compromised include:

1- Micronet (now Nayatel)
2- Multinet
3- Paknet (merged into PTCL in 2007)
4- PTCL’s gateway exchange in Lahore

Micronet server was target in 2000 while Multinet and PTCL ITI Lahore servers were attacked in 2002 and 2003 respectively.

Plenty of data sets including the configuration setting of tools were used to hack servers, according to the latest set of leaks. The data reveals that most of the hacked servers were running Solaris – an effective Unix operating system developed by Sun Microsystems which was commonly used from back in the days.

The data forsaken online by the group contains 352 unique IP addresses and 306 domain names that allegedly have been hacked by the NSA. You can find out the information about the IP addresses about the comprised servers by clicking here.

It is worth mentioning that the data is 10 years old when NSA was not as hostile as it is today. The usage of internet has touched the sky and with NSA getting stronger, the possibility of more ISPs getting hacked cannot be ruled out in the future.

Do you think NSA will continue to monitor the activities of internet users in the future?
