Pokémon Go craze has boosted game boy worth

When you see people walking on the streets glued to their phones trying to catch fake Pokémon characters; don’t freak out as they are undoubtedly Pokémon Go lovers. It is a new app which has encapsulated all game lovers and is trending the internet in its augmented reality world. The popularity of this app has pushed up the worth of game boy, an old game console from 90’s.

So if a game boy is sitting idle somewhere in your house, it is the perfect time to encash it for $700 on either eBay or Amazon. Pokémon Go has created history as it was released on 6th July 2016 and within a span of two weeks it has brought new life to Nintendo, once a slagging entity.

Pokémon Go – A fad or here to stay?

Pokémon Go is developed by Niantic in partnership with Nintendo for iOS and Android devices. As of 18 July i.e. less than two weeks after the game went live, it managed to attract 21 million active users in United States alone.

One of the major reasons for its popularity is its trade-off between real and virtual world. It is using real locations to entice players to find and catch Pokémon species while exploring the environment. As players move around their smartphones vibrate to inform that a Pokémon is near. This game series is using real locations of major cities in the world as an inspiration.

Although it has been released in 35 countries but Americans are spending more time on this game than on Facebook and WhatsApp, according to an app analytic firm in U.S.

Apple and Nintendo expecting billions

According to The Guardian, Apple expects to generate $3 billion revenue from Pokémon Go mania within next two years, as players buy ‘PokéCoins’ from its app store. Apple’s share has surged by 5% in market value since the game has been launched. Nintendo’s stock also almost doubled in a fortnight.

The exact picture of the financial gains is still unclear for all stakeholders but it is safe to say that everyone is in a good spot, thanks to Pokémon Go.

Meanwhile, the game continues to dominate the tech world. Gamers can immerse themselves in its innovative adventures.
