Pakistani hacker defaced Indian Canara Bank’s website

A Pakistani hacker had attacked one of India’s largest lenders, Canara Bank’s website on 2nd August 2016. The hacker who calls himself Faisal 1337 tried to block e-payments by inserting a mischievous page. The notion was to block and secure e-payment details of the bank.

As soon as Reserve Bank of India learnt about this news, they sent a letter to the chairmen of Canara Bank. He asked the official to review the funds that are lying in their foreign accounts. Moreover, he also advised the chairmen of the bank to validate payment emails with the SWIFT confirmations for accuracy.

The hacker had used an URL to insert the page on bank’s site but he failed to access data.

A senior official of Canara Bank while talking to Economic Times stated:

“We have filed an FIR with the cyber-crime department of the police. The bank immediately took note of the attack and isolated the server and diverted the traffic to a standby server. There was no loss. As of now we are seeing 20,000 online payment transactions”

After the hacker was able to deface the website, he posted the following message on Canara Bank’s site:

Faisal has claimed the responsibility openly

Faisal 1337 has openly claimed the responsibility of hacking the bank’s website on his Facebook page. His profile suggests that he has had a long history of hacking Indian websites including the Indian railway website. However, the hacker hasn’t been able to gather information from these websites in any of the previous attacks.

This is not the first time a Pakistani hacker has defaced an Indian website. Earlier in June this year, as many as seven Indian websites were hacked by a group supporting Pakistan. Moreover, Indian hackers keep on defacing Pakistani websites as soon as their websites get hacked.

Do you think this move will trigger Indian hackers to deface some Pakistani websites?
