Wi-Fi Reach Can Now Be Extended Through Software

Presently, Wi-Fi reach capabilities can be extended through boosters and high-end routers such as Amazon Euro or Google Nest.

Scientists at Brigham Young University have developed a software protocol named “On-Off Noise Power Communication (ONPC)” which can do just that i.e. extend Wi-Fi reach by more than 60 metres.

The process involves empowering Wi-Fi enabled devics to transmit wireless noise and signals, basically switching the signal on/off in specific configurations. This method indicates the Wi-Fi router that the device is transmitting continuously thereby keeping the signal persistent.

The ONPC protocol boosted a range of a regular device about 67 meters away from the range of average Wi-Fi.
