Punjab University to provide free education to 10 students from occupied Kashmir for the ongoing academic year. In addition, the university has also announced free accommodation for 10 students from the region.
In reference to current tensed situation between India and Pakistan, Punjab University has taken a great initiative. While speaking at a two-day national conference, Vice Chancellor of Punjab University, Professor Dr. Mujahid Kamran stated:
“We have decided to give admission initially to 10 students of the Kashmir Valley in the session of 2017. The university will bear their study and residential expenses”
By taking this positive step, Dr Mujahid has decided to contribute to the well-being of the society. Moreover, he is looking to play a vital part in improving the tensed situation between the two countries.
The university is well-known for providing free education to students who hail from neglected and affected regions. They also assisted 15 students from Gilgit-Baltistan last year.
While ensuring to increase the quota of Kashmiri students from next year, Dr. Mujahid said:
“We are also going to allocate special funds to carry out a thorough research on Kashmir dispute”
Besides providing free education, Punjab University also announced stipend and hostel facilities for the Kashmiri students.
The current situation between both India and Pakistan is apprehensive due to obvious reason. Steps like these will definitely help promote peace in both regions. Moreover, the people of Kashmir are long deprived of peace since it is a disputed territory.
