Chaudhry Nisar provides roadmap for re-verification of CNICs

Interior Minister of Pakistan, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has vowed that he will continue to ensure the gigantic task of CNICs reverification of 180 million Pakistanis despite plenty of criticism including from the former chief of National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA).

Chaudhry Nisar faced immense criticism in the SIM registration drive which was successfully executed. Responding to the criticism, he said:

“They said it was an impossible task and will cost a lot. But what is more important than the security of Pakistan?”

Interior Minister has also reduced the number of DGs in NADRA from 26 to 10 to ensure the process is completed effectively and efficiently. On Saturday (4th June 2016), Chaudhry Nisar made sure that the process of reverification of CNICs will be completed in next 6 months. While addressing a news conference, he stated:

“Re-verification of CNICs is a national duty. I’m committed that there can be no compromise on the security of the country as well as the nation; I would complete the task, as earlier SIMs re-verification was also done successfully through the bio-metric system.”

Furthermore, Chaudhry Nisar explained that there would be two phase while presenting the roadmap of CNICs reverification. In the first phase, family heads would be sent a text to report the bad egg in their family tree while all SIM owners will get a text to verify their family members in the second phase. Chaudhry Nisar’s statement while explain the first phase was:

“In the first phase of re-verification of CNICs all family heads – who are 25 million in number – will get SMS on cellular phones in which they will be forwarded their family-tree. In case the family head determines that there is no extra person in his family-tree, he will not be required to respond to the SMS. However, he is required to reply to the SMS if someone other than his family has been counted as his family member”

Elaborating on the next phase, which will also be a second phase that involves verification of nationals through the data of PTA, Chaudhry Nisar stated that:

“In the second phase of this exercise which is linked with the national security, all SIM owners, who are 100 million in number, will get a text to verify their family members. The data of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is being used for this purpose”

The methodology used by the Interior Minister is quite simple. For example if the head of the family detects anyone who doesn’t to his family, he should report this irregularity to the nearest office of NADRA to ensure that the record is being updated. It would be important to bring such complicated information into the notice of NADRA officials.

Moreover, a reward of Rs. 10,000/- was also announced from the Interior Minister for individuals who will identify and report any foreign national bearing a National ID card of Pakistan.

Amidst all this, NADRA has got a serious task at their hands. CNICs reverification process is not a Mickey Mouse stuff and it will require extreme attention, dedication and vigilance for the successful processing. Moreover, it would be important for the people of Pakistan to contribute in the best possible manner while providing information to play a vital role in the reverification process of CNICs.
