Electricity is one of the most discussed topics in Pakistan due to its dearth in most parts of the country. The people of Pakistan must have at least once experienced the trouble of getting sky-high electricity bills especially during summer. However, there is one such device that claims to reduce your electricity bill by 25%.
A Pakistani IoT startup and alumni of both Plan9 and LUMS Centre for Entrepreneurship, Fictive Lab, has developed a smart energy device called Wattie. The device makes it possible to prevail over the shortcoming by monitoring everyday electricity consumption.
About Wattie
Wattie is a smart device that transmits information about home energy consumption directly to one’s smartphone via an app. It provides a detailed projection of how much energy electricity machines have been consuming. In addition, the device also projects the electricity bill in advance.
The device sits in the electricity supply box and it is connected to the internet via Wi-Fi. A GSM version is also coming soon. The manufacturer of Wattie claims that the device can help in reducing the electricity bill by 25%.
It has been observed that most of the energy is consumed when the appliances are on standby. Subsequently, it is overlooked and there is barely any way of keeping track of it. Wattie will enable to monitor the overall consumption. Furthermore, a user will also be able to track all the appliances that remain idle but contribute towards monthly bill.
Real-time electricity usage
Once you login to the main electricity meter, Wattie sends raw data to the device’s AI platform. Moreover, it will exhibit a chart of real-time electricity usage. Thereafter, the data is sent to its mobile application which utilizes it to provide information to users such as electrical loads on different phases and numbers for electrical consumption.
In addition, the app takes into account different billing slabs and government taxes to compute the expected bill. As a result, it provides greater exactness to its predictions.
Cost of the little beauty
The device is priced at a limited time price of Rs. 2,900 along with a quarterly subscription of Rs. 300. However, there is some leeway in the price if you pre-order Wattie now. They will waive off the monthly subscription fee for a period of 2 years. Delivery date for the first pre-orders is set towards the end of this year.
Fictive Lab specializes in the R&D of both hardware and software. This is just their first venture in the smart energy ecosystem. They are also working on an enterprise version of this device to cater the specific needs of industry and businesses. Besides, they also have plans for making several other similar devices and services that will eventually compliment Wattie.
