The 11th P@SHA ICT Awards: Time for Nominations

P@SHA stands for Pakistan Software Houses Association for IT & ITES. This industry association is active in addressing common concerns of the software industry in Pakistan by providing a platform to promote and develop the sector. Led by leading professionals in the software industry in Pakistan, P@SHA provides several essential services for the sector such as holding industry events, acting as a portal for jobs, research and industry news as well as hosting the annual P@SHA ICT Awards.

2014 P@SHA ICT Awards

The 2014 edition of these awards, the 11th year, is planned to be held on September 20th of this year. Applications are currently open for submissions and nominations from the Pakistani business and software community. These awards are designed to recognize and promote exceptional work done in the sector over the last year. Nominees and winners are honored for their efforts and are set up as role models for the remaining industry.

There is potential for further international glory as the winners of the P@SHA ICT Awards’ regional categories will get a chance to compete in the Asia Pacific ICT Alliance Awards against entries from the region.

The Details

Most important detail of all at this time is that the deadline for submission of nomination and other required supplementary materials is August 31, 2014. Beyond that, interested parties should decide on the category that they feel their product or service is best suited for as the rules only allow one product/service to be nominated in one category. This doesn’t limit a company from nominating different products in different categories.

For each category, an excellent level of detail is provided regarding the criteria for nomination as well as for judging the winner. This is not just a good guideline for participants but also a good structure to learn from for start-ups wanting to build their name in the sector.

There are a total of 32 categories: 17 in the Product section and 15 related to services.

Product Categories include Tourism & Hospitality, Tools & Infrastructure, Tertiary Student Project, Startup Company, Security Application, Secondary Student Project, Research & Development, New Media & Entertainment, Industrial Application, Green and Sustainable IT, Financial Industry Application, E-Logistics and Supply Chain Management, E Inclusion & E Community, E-Health, E-Learning, E-Government and Communications.

Service Categories include CIO of the Year (separate awards for Private and Public Sector), Social Media (separate awards for Non-IT and IT Company), Service Innovation, Project Management, Managed Services, Mobile Application, HR Excellence, Gender Diversity, Export Growth, CSR, Brand Development, BPO and Animation.

The scope of the awards is pretty wide with a large focus on innovations and applications of IT in different industries as well as incorporating the management of the IT industries in the country. This is a good balance as products often get the limelight in the IT sector while management practices (equally important for success in the business) are ignored in terms of recognition. Best practices in all areas need to be highlighted to set good examples for the industry and help the sector grow in all ways possible.

In addition to the glamour and honor of winning these awards, the awards event is a great way for the sector to come together and network. Participants get a chance to meet other industry professionals with a possibility to collaborate with and learn from each other.

The ICT Awards are also a great stamp for the excellence of your product and services. For start-up technologies or ventures seeking out investments and partners, this type of recognition can help build a strong repo for the brand and company.

Best of Luck

The IT sector in Pakistan has come a long way and there has been a great deal of contribution from local talent and enterprises. These awards are a great way to round up last year’s progress and achievements, and set the stage for more accolade-worthy work in the sector.

We would like to wish all the participants and nominees the best of luck, and look forward to see who stood out the most in their categories and gets a chance to represent Pakistan on the international stage (limited to product categories).
