14th ITCN Asia: Karachi Hosting Asia’s IT Community

The “14th ITCN Asia IT and Telecom Show” is happening at the Karachi Expo Center from August 26th till August 28th, 2014. This 3-day event promises to be the largest ICT Expo in the history of Pakistan with participants from Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Netherlands, Russia, Singapore, Taiwan, UAE, UK and the USA expected at the event. The scale of the exhibition is promising with an exhibit area over 9,000 square meters and over 45,000 trade visitors expected.

The event is expected to be attended by high level Government officials, top executives and professionals from the local and international industry and trade delegations from various countries. This makes it the place to launch new ideas, network with fellow professionals, seek out new partnerships and celebrate progress of the industry over the last year. This is the 14th such consecutive event organized by Ecommerce Gateway Pakistan (Pvt.) Ltd.

Major Participants

According to the conference’s website: major participants include Channel TEK, Prolink , Mobilink, Magix Digital Technology, Celmore, AsiaSat, FortiNet, Ningbo Duacarrier Electronics, Genetec Audio, SONY, Cannon Technologies, KPITB, Open Vox, Hongan Group, City Links, Panasonic, Avivest France, Evertz, Hitachi, Harris, Microsoft and Extreme Networks.

These companies can be expected to display their latest technologies as well as achievements in the local industry. As Pakistan is a growing market for telecommunications and IT sectors, it is an attractive prospect for regional and global tech giants.

Fields Covered

The event promises to bring together professionals in the following fields:  IT & Telecommunication networks, next generation networks, IP Technology, satellite communications, infrastructure solutions, backhauling, broadcasting, consumer electronics, digital marketing, cyber security, cloud and more.

This makes it an event that must be attended by professionals in the industry in order to get updated with the latest technologies available and also acquainting oneself with the major companies involved in progress in the region.

Hackathon by Microsoft

As part of the overall show, Microsoft is organizing a hackathon for startups, students and professional developers to come and hack for Windows Phone and win Windows phone devices. There are five categories for the competition: Build for Better Pakistan, Games, Kids & Education, Lifestyle & Food and News & Weather. Be sure to get registered here if you plan on participating. The participations rules are pretty relaxed and encourage maximum involvement from students and young developers.

This part of the program has the power not only to attract a large number of young developers and students, it might be the beginning of a great idea for an app along the lines of one of the themes set for the hackathon. Collaboration, teamwork and the entrepreneurial environment of such events can spark some ideas that usual days won’t allow to come to life.

Conference: 3G & 4G – Impetus for Growth

Alongside the exhibition, there is a conference going on at the venue with the title: 3G & 4G – Impetus for Growth. The keynote address at the conference is being given by the Chairman of Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA): Mr. Syed Ismail Shah. Speakers from various corporations and government agencies will be sharing their insights with the conference participants. Below are the speakers and their topics:
