An agreement has been signed between Pakistan Telecommunication Limited (PTCL) and IBM Italia S.p.A (Pakistan) for the launch of public cloud services in Pakistan. There is no exaggeration that the deal between the two companies is momentous and massive.
PTCL is one of the largest internet service providers in Pakistan which offer DSL connectivity to number of Pakistani residents while IBM has an energetic presence with immense cloud computing services in Pakistan. The collaboration between the two companies is seen as an exciting idea by the critiques.
PTCL will host the turnkey solution of IBM at the breakthrough centers in Karachi and Lahore primarily for corporate customers. Moreover, it was also decided that PTCL will also be offering cutting edge services while using the cloud platform of IBM.
The public cloud services will include Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) with Virtual Private Servers (VPS), Disaster Recovery Site (DRS), backup and storage as a service along with web hosting solutions and compute on demand to the customers in Pakistan.
Public cloud is a form of cloud computing in which a company relies on a third-party cloud service provider for services such as servers, data storage and applications, which are delivered to the company through the internet. Examples of public clouds include Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), IBM’s Blue Cloud, Sun Cloud, Google AppEngine and Windows Azure Services Platform.

PTCL’s Chief Digital and Corporate Services Officer, Kamal Ahmed, while speaking on the occasion stated that:
“The PTCL-IBM Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) agreement is an important step forward in our efforts to create greater value, not only for our customers but the entire enterprise segment”
IBM Pakistan’s General Manager, Ghazanfar Ali, was also present on the occasion. According to him:

IBM’s public cloud services platform is furnished with modern technologies. This partnership between two industry players is a significant step forward in developing a valuable IT infrastructure and a natural progression of PTCL’s succession data center business in the country.
