Pakistan’s First Remote Sensing Satellite, PRSS-1 To Be Launched in March ’18

PRSS-1, Pakistan’s first remote sensing satellite will be launched in March 2018. The announcement has been made this week by Pakistan’s Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) at World Space Week 2017.

After the launch, Pakistan shall not be dependent on other foreign space companies for satellite-dependent data. Moreover, Pakistan won’t have to pay for this data as its own satellite will do that task of collecting data.

Chief Guest at the National Center for Remote Sensing & Geo-Informatics, Ayaz Aziz said:

“Our first optical remote sensing satellite PRSS-1 is all set to be launched in 2018 with which Pakistan will become self-reliant in multispectral imaging thus saving a huge foreign exchange on account of satellite imagery and satellite-based monitoring of various national projects. Our communication satellite Paksat-1R is up and running with efficient provision of communication and broadcast services throughout the country and neighboring regions”

The World Space Week

The World Space Week is an annual event. The event is commonly defined as:

An international celebration of science and technology, and their contribution to the betterment of the human condition.

The inaugural ceremony was held at Institute of Space Technology (IST), Islamabad. The ceremony was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Qaiser Anees Khurram who is the chairman of SUPARCO.

From 4th October to 10th October, the World Space Week will be celebrated across 16 cities of Pakistan.

The Space Education Bus

The space education bus was exhibited at the end of the ceremony by SUPARCO officials and the chief guest. The exhibition was done to show the significance of space education in schools and other educational institutes especially in rural areas of Sindh.

World Space Week is held every year to attract the youth towards space technology and to create curiosity in those little minds so they can also contribute towards development in the field of space and technology.
