How to Get Your NTN – Step-by-Step Guide [Updated 2023]

Here, you’ll learn how to get your National Tax Number (NTN). True, taxes are a hotly disputed topic in Pakistan (and most other places). Nevertheless, countries run on taxes, and apart from following the law, it is good citizenship to pay taxes for the benefit of the nation.

Every salaried person and business person is liable to pay income tax, sales tax and property tax in Pakistan.

However, to do that, you must first register with Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). We’ve done the legwork to get you started. Here’s our detailed guide on how to get your National Tax Number (NTN)!

Getting your NTN

– Visit FBR IRIS portal

– Click on ‘Registration for Unregistered Person’ box, which has a green highlight.

– Fill in the form with all the accurate and relevant information including your name, number, CNIC, address, email address

– Once you’ve entered all information, click on ‘submit’. Thereafter, you will receive a 6-digit code on both your contact number and email address.

– Enter the codes into the respective boxes and click on ‘submit’. Your account will be created and you will receive a password and pin code from FBR via SMS or email. A person can then login via USER ID and password.

– After logging in, you will land on the main IRIS page. Here, tap on ‘draft’. Soon, you will get to see 181 application form

– Now you will need to click on ‘edit’ so that you can see 6 different tabs: personal tab, business tab, property tab, link tab, attachment and bank account tab

– Next, fill out the registration form with all the required information (which of course must be truthful and correct). If you are working in a company, you need to add your employer’s NTN in the link tab.

– Attach all necessary documents (see the lists below).
