All You Need To Know About Recently Launched Intel SSD 545

Intel has recently launched its new SSD; the Intel SSD 545 and the good thing about it is that it is available at a pretty much affordable price. With the use of extra dense memory chips, Intel has created an SSD that is both, reliable and affordable.

Named as the Intel SSD 545, it is the first SSD ever to use 64-layer TLC 3D NAND chips. While other companies were talking about using these chips in their products, Intel actually used them and made the product commercially available within that time. The main reason that these SSDs are cheap is because each 64-layered chip can store more data and hence, fewer chips are required to manufacture one SSD.

The drive comes with a storage capacity of 545 GB and is currently available at a price of $180. On the other hand, if you search for drives with the same storage capacity, you will see that the prices range from $150-$170. However, with the addition of just around $10, you can now afford a better one.

SSDs are generally used for small work and putting a bit too much pressure on them dramatically decreases their performance. But same is not the case with the Intel SSD 545 which although is cheaper, but can still sustain higher workload. This means that even if these drives are used under heavy performance scenarios, they will always live up to your expectations and will never show you a decrease in performance. Moreover, one more thing to keep in mind is that $180 is just the initial price of the drive and sooner or later, Intel will further drop the price.

Performance

The drives are said to have sequential read speeds of up to 550MB/s and sequential write speeds of 500MB/s. Although this speed is not a record-breaking one, it is still far better than a hard drive. Furthermore, these SSDs also operate at a much lower power as compared to hard drives with an average power consumption of only 4.5 watts.

Storage capacities

Initially, Intel has launched the SSD with only 512GB of space. However, it is expected that Intel will release these drives with storage capacities ranging from 128GB to 2TB in the future.
