Application process for Islamabad Civic Hackathon 2016 begins

A hackathon is a gathering where programmers collaboratively code in software development in an extreme manner over a short period of time. Different universities and companies organize a number of hackathons in the country.

Subsequently, there is one hackathon that is being arranged in the capital of country, Islamabad, by Code for Pakistan and its Islamabad Innovation lab. This innovation lab is a joint program with OPEN Islamabad.

Led by Sheba Najmi, ‘The Islamabad Civic Hackathon’ will take place for 2 days on 16th and 17th July next month. The event is free for anyone to participate. However, the numbers of seats are limited and candidates would be served on first-come-first-serve basis. Everyone who is interested in solving civic issues will be gathering to develop meaningful products from scratch.

This is not the first time a hackathon is being organized in the country. Previously, there have been Civic Hackathons that were conducted in major cities of Pakistan including Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar and Islamabad. There were plenty of impactful startups that were also emerged from these activities. Active Shehri and Learning 2.0 are couple of examples.

Following will be the activities of the event…

• Open-source design thinking
• Mentorship from experts from Government and Non-government organizations.
• Network with other teams and share ideas.
• Create functional proto-types that address a particular problem of interest and provide a viable solution.

Who can apply for the event…?

Given logistical and space requirements, the organizers have encouraged interested individuals to apply prior to the event if they possess the skills of web development, data analysis, mobile app development and research in community welfare and civic problems.
