Daewoo Starts Its Own Cab Booking Service

Long before Careem and Uber prevailed in Pakistan, the general public used to opt for taxis to get them from one point to another. However, there were a few cab services back then but they were all the more expensive.  One of the premium cab services at that time was the ‘Daewoo Cab Service’.

With the arrival of Careem and Uber and a few more online cab services, Daewoo decided to step into the game too with its own cab-booking service. With the same services that it provided back in the old days, Daewoo has started its own app for cab-booking to compete with Uber and Careem.

Daewoo will provide its services in the following cities:

  • Lahore
  • Rawalpindi/Islamabad
  • Karachi
  • Multan
  • Peshawar
  • Abbottabad
  • Sialkot
  • Faisalabad
  • Sukkur

Promotional Offers

A promotion offer has also been launched for users in Karachi. Customers in Karachi can use code DAEWOOFIRST to get Rs300 off on their first ride. However, Daewoo is providing services through business cars only and is comparatively much more expensive with the aim of providing luxury services to users.

Daewoo’s car booking app was tested by ProPakistani.

App Features

The interface of the app is similar to that of Careem. However, the app lacks a bit of animation and smoothness which other apps provide. As for all apps, the user is required to sign up or sign in the app when using it for the first time.

The app uses Google maps for navigation and setting pick and drop locations. The app also offers a ride now and ride later option to enable users to choose their time of departure.

Swiping right from the main page takes you to a page where you can access payment options, personal info, ride history, etc. Daewoo has also added a wallet similar to the one used in Careem.

One more feature that makes Daewoo standout is that it provides payment options including EasyPaisa. Users can add an EasyPaisa account and pay their dues through it.

Fare

The Daewoo service charges are much higher than Careem and Uber. The Daewoo service demands Rs.480 for the same route that costs Rs350-250 on Careem and Rs150-200 on UberGo. Although Daewoo provides only business class service, the prices can’t be afforded by everyone.

App Size

Even though the app is quite similar to the Careem app, it is much smaller in size. Daewoo’s app is about 6MB on Android whereas Careem’s app size is 35MB and that of Uber is around 120 MB.

Daewoo’s cab service will compete with Uber and Careem even though it’s more expensive than both of them. However, having a good background from its previous days, Daewoo might lure in a lot of customers. Whether the service will prevail or not, cannot be predicted.
