One of the best and key features of Facebook is it’s Like button. Anyone who browses Internet, particularly social media platforms, would know about the significance of Like button since it has been mandated ever since Facebook came up with it.
The competition is so tough across social websites that it is almost impossible to survive without Like button. Different platforms have different types of buttons. For instance, Facebook has thumbs up button whilst Twitter has got heart-shaped button in the form of Like. Since Facebook is evolving so is it’s Like button as Mark Zuckerberg owned-company has decided to redesign its Like button.
This remodeled version was announced on Tuesday by the company via the blog post. The new Like button features a thumbs-up icon. Previously, it was a traditional Facebook logo on the button. The notion behind the remodeling of the Like button was to make it more user-friendly so that more people could engage and associate themselves with news thumbs-up icon.
Moreover, the tests revealed by Facebook also state that there is an increment of 6% in the results that were conducted in comparison between the new and old Like buttons.
When Facebook was founded, the numbers of smartphone users were quite low. Ever since mobile phone has taken our lives by storm, there has been constant remodeling and this change of button is a part of one of Facebook’s overall redesign. The size of the button is also altered and the change has been made specifically to get more likes from mobile users.
The notion to have separate size of Like buttons will make it easier and convenient for smartphone users to like and share the content on Facebook. More than 30% of likes come from mobile users. Furthermore, Facebook is also integrating to like, comment and share buttons to its instant articles format.
There have been changes in other social media plugins of Facebook as the company has also added new icons for following, recommending and saving articles to read later. The purpose of these modifications is to improve the integration of Facebook which is an indication of the strategy that Facebook is trying to pursue. Moreover, users will be eventually led to Facebook after all these changes.
It would be too premature whether this new Like button would be a hit or not. Moreover, it would also take some time for users to notice this change. Couple of months down the lane, it could be decided by the number of likes whether the new Like button was a success or not.
