INDIA: 60% funding for cow dung, urine startups

The BJP government has setup a National “Cow” Commission.

Yes, you read that right! It’s called “Rashtriya Kamdhenu Aayog”. What will it do? Pour seed money into startups which can diversity commercial cow by-products involving dung and urine. It will indeed be a ‘shitty’ business, which can also be ‘pissed’ off…literally.

Vallabh Kathiria, chairman of the new commission, shared his vision of diversifying dung and urine for medicinal and agricultural purposes apart from the usual marketplace practice of producing milk and ghee.

If you still think this is a joke or satire, the chairman met with academics and students at Entrepeneurship Development Institute in Gandhinagar to co-develop “cow-based business models”.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi established the Rashtriya Kamdhenu Aayog with an initial budget of 500 crore Indian rupees so that the dung and urine extracts will encourage cow owners to retain them for long-term utility.

A ‘cow tourism circuit’ is also in the pipeline passing through Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Kera, Karnataka and Goa.

Here’s hoping that these entrepreneurs do not ‘cow down’ during experimentations!
