Pakistan’s First VR Documentary To Be Presented By Sharmeen Obaid

As virtual reality is building its pace, film and movie makers are deciding to develop movies in VR. One such woman from Pakistan; Sharmeen Obaid, who is already a two-time Academy-Award Winner, has also stepped in the game with her latest VR documentary. Titled as the ‘Look But With Love’, the documentary is about social challenges faced in Pakistan and the documentary is set to premiere in VR this fall at the Tribeca TV Festival.

Tribeca TV Festival is a part of Tribeca Film Festival which is hosted every year to promote the work of independent film-makers along with promoting new ideas and technologies. The Tribeca TV Festival is a new event aimed at promoting Virtual Reality and it will start by launching Sharmeen Obaid’s new documentary.

About the documentary

The documentary is divided into five parts which tell the story of Pakistani individuals striving to uplift and change the socio-political landscape of the country while going through continuous and utmost struggle. Five different stories will be highlighted in the documentary out of which, two will be shown at the festival. Titled as ‘A Story Of Women’, the first episode brings the story of a group of Pakistani women who are using paramilitary training in order to fight the terrorist insurgencies in the country. Furthermore, the second episode is titled as ‘A Story of Dance of Look But With Love’. This will follow the story of a woman who teaches youngsters to express themselves through their dancing and convey a message to the society. This VR documentary is brought to the viewers by a VR company called “Within”.

Virtual Reality (VR) has gained a lot of importance and it is being used not only in gaming but also in places such as online shopping, virtual training, etc. VR is also being used by companies to give their customers virtual tours of different places. With all of these fields using VR for different purposes, why should the film industry hold back? It is a perfect way to customize the way people look at movies and to give viewers an experience they’ve never had before. YouTube and other sites like it are already filled with movies and videos in VR and Netflix even has its own app for VR movies and videos.

There are a number of VR documentaries made but ‘Look But With Love’ is the first Pakistani VR documentary. Let’s hope it gives viewers a better understanding of the documentary and an amazing visual experience.
