NADRA planning to reap millions from re-verification of CNICs drill

Government of Pakistan (GoP) has decided the re-verification of CNICs of all Pakistanis. According to the decision, it has been proposed and directed by the Interior Minister, Chaudhry Nisar to prepare a plan to not only re verify all CNICs but also make money out of it by charging a certain amount i.e. Rs. 15 per family. This will facilitate NADRA to meet the current expenditure of re verification and enable them to earn millions. A summary has been forwarded to the interior Minister for approval.

A formal committee has been formed under the Secretary Interior to start the entire process of re-verification. The exercise was supposed to start from 1st of July but still it is facing several delays as despite 13 days the process hasn’t started. It seems it is facing a few glitches on the operational side.

NADRA was asked to send SMS alerts to the heads of the family for re verification of CNICs. The money would be routed to the authorities as Mobile companies would receive SMS charges from these nationals.

Security issue is a major concern

The ultimate reason for this re verification is to eliminate any security threats arising from illegal CNIC holders along with exposing the real identities of all Pakistanis. The matter exaggerated when an Afghan national got hold of Pakistani CNIC and passport. Thus, raising a red flag on the authenticity of the passport and CNIC issuing authorities as it is could lead to many illegal and criminal activities.

Interior Minister reassured that the process of re verification would be carried out in a cordial manner smoothly. However, this process requires colossal efforts from NADRA and strict SOPs need to be devised in order to successfully re verify the CNICs of more than 180 million people of Pakistan. Let’s hope the citizens don’t face any difficulty in getting their CNICs verified.
