Geekbench: Nokia 9 – 8GB RAM Model Gets Shockingly Low Scores

Nokia 9 codenamed ‘Unknown Heart’ has made another appearance on Geekbench’s benchmark test. The highly anticipated flagship handset made an appearance with 8GB internal RAM capacity. The results, however remain shockingly low in comparison to the 4MB variant. Going by the result, we expect more tests to be conducted in the near future on the same platform.

This however leads to an interesting speculation – the Nokia 9 flagship phone can ship with two different memory variants. The speculation is the result of Nokia previously testing 4GB phone on Geekbench’s test platform. The company has not made it clear whether they are desperate to make a comeback to the mid-range smartphone market. Midrange smartphone market is primarily dominated by Xiaomi and OnePlus, with OnePlus rumored to release an 8MB version.

Rumored specs

The 8MB version according to Geekbench listing confirms the device to be powered by Qualcomm 1.9GHz octa-core processor, which has been identified as the latest Snapdragon 835 chipset. The listing also confirms Android 7.1.1 Nougat pre-installed on the Nokia 9.

The prototype is rumored to have:

  • Dual 13MP rear camera
  • A 5.2in WQHD (1440×2560 pixels) display
  • 4GB or 6GB RAM
  • 64GB of internal storage

The handset includes Adreno 540GPU, 3,800mAh battery with QuickCharge 4.0 support and 64 or 128GB storage option.

The camera is latest Carl Zeiss lens both at the front and back, featuring a dual camera setup at the rear. An iris scanner and industry standard IP68 dust and water resistance certification are also salient features of the handset.

As far as the release date is concerned, the Nokia 9 has a tentative launch date set for some time between July and August.

The benchmark comparison

The shocking benchmark results between the 4MB model and 8MB leave plenty of room for questions. This may also mean that Nokia is planning a few more benchmark tests within the next few weeks. For now, we keep our fingers crossed and see how the progress goes.
