Pakistan: Ban Announced On Issuance Of Visas On Arrival

Interior Minister of Pakistan Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has directed the interior ministry to place a ban on the issuance of visas on arrival to all the foreigners including high dignitaries.

The minister has ordered the ministry to cease giving visas on arrival under the guise of landing permits. Moreover, he has directed the suspension with immediate effect. He said that sloppiness should be avoided as it could lead to serious consequences.

While speaking to the reporters on Monday, he disclosed that as many as 34,000 landing permits have been issued since 2007. It indicates more than 3,000 permits per year in last 10 years. Chaudhry Nisar expressed that visas on arrival should be on a give-and-take basis only.

During the meeting, Nisar asked the ministry to revise and apprise rules and regulations of visas on arrival. The minister has already directed to launch an online visa application system, which will eventually bring transparency besides diminishing discretion and accelerating the whole process.

The introduction of online visa application system would ultimately eradicate any sort of irregularity in the issuance of visas.

As per Chaudhry Nisar, the central visa databank was indispensable. The chief reason is that it would empower the state organizations to keep a check on all the foreigners who are traveling to Pakistan on any visa category.

In addition, interior minister also ordered the ministry to speed up the completion of the concept paper for the latest and upgraded Immigration and Border Control Department. This will ensure stringent shadowing of Pakistan’s air, land and sea route along with the entry and exit points.
