Pakistan’s Communication Satellite Arsenal Strengthens After New Chinese Addition

China has decided to provide Pakistan with a new and high end communication satellite. The satellite will be facilitated by the Academy of Space Technology of China. This is going to take place under a bilateral exchange agreement between Pakistan and China for enhancing and expanding Pakistan’s telecommunication network.

It has been revealed that the Space Academy actually built 7 of these satellites out of which, one has been built for Pakistan.

The Head of the Institute of Telecommunication Satellites Zhou Zhicheng shared that China will re-execute export contracts for an estimated number of 10 more satellites. Moreover, he also said that Pakistan has been lagging behind in the field of telecommunication as compared to other countries such as US and Europe . He stressed that sooner or later, it will need to catch up with these countries.

The Shijian 13

It was also revealed that China is currently building a high end satellite for itself which will be the best of the lot they have ever developed. The satellite will generate a great expansive network allowing travelers to use internet on trains and even aircrafts. The satellite will be launched in April, 2017.

This high end satellite named Shijian 13 is one of the six communications satellites, China intends to launch in 2017. A Long March 3b carrier rocket will accompany the satellite throughout its journey to the space. The satellite will be launched from Xichange Satellite Launch Center in the Sichuan province of China.

Operating Speed

The satellite possesses a Ka-band broadband system which has the capability to send and receive 20 GB of data per second. Resources state that this satellite will be one of the finest satellites made by China. The communication satellite will remain in the geostationary orbit for 15 years.

As it reaches its destination, the satellite will be used to conduct experiments regarding space-to-ground laser communications.

In the National Conference on Space Science and Technology at Arts Auditorium in Karachi University, it was revealed that Pakistan and China have made an agreement to build a satellite for the sole purpose of monitoring CPEC routes across Pakistan.
