Peshawar youth presented revolutionary ideas at Education Innovation Challenge

Co-working and incubation centre, Basecamp Peshawar in collaboration with an NGO, Ilm Ideas2 arranged an Education Innovation Challenge (EIC) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The obejctive of the challenge was to discover innovative ideas to reform the education system from KG to class 10 under the K10 Project.

While addressing the media, Basecamp program manager Neelam Azmat stated:

“K10 is the first and lone project of its type in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It is aimed at bringing the best social entrepreneurs of the region in an effort to find the most creative solutions for the education sector. For this purpose we have ran campaigns drives in all Universities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan”

As many as thirty ideas were pitched on the first day of Education Innovation Challenge. Out of which the judges short-listed 10, of which 3 were selected on the final day of EIC. Furthermore, top 3 ideas will be incubated for three months in Basecamp Peshawar.

Top three ideas

1- The first award at the challenge went to Syeda Maheen Shah. She stated that most of the lectures on science are either boring on uninteresting for students. The typical teaching of science through textbooks is generally difficult for students to understand. As a result, she pitched the idea of ‘Scinimation’. The word is a mixture of science and animation. She explained the idea teaching basic science concepts through 2D animations. Not only this idea will help students in learning but it will also develop interest among students in science subject.

2- A team of 3 members (Shahabuddin, Syed Umar and Hafiz Irfan) present the idea of ‘science on wheels’. Their idea is to create a mobile lab that will be fully equipped. In addition, they want to provide lab facilities to each school. The lab will comprise of skilled and experienced professionals.

3- A medical student, Afaq Qarnain, while focusing on proper time utilization of children and avoiding them from distractions presented an idea of an app ‘qabil bano’. The app will provide parents an access to activate school mode on their cell phones. The school mode will allow children to view the video lectures and notes. Moreover, the children will also be able to take the quiz after watching the lecture. Upon the successful completion of the quiz, students will be able to access movies and cartoons.
