Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has officially denied all the rumors of collaborating with Ufone and ZONG, reported by ProPakistani.
A spokesman of PTCL, while talking to the company rubbished all the claims. He stated:
“PTCL, on confirmation from Etisalat, would like to categorically state that no discussions regarding the sale of Etisalat’s stake in PTCL and its subsidiary Ufone to any company, have taken place”

Media’s false reporting
The media was highlighting the rumors and it was all over Facebook too. However, PTCL have stepped forward to reject all the claims. According to the reports of the media, it was stated that ZONG was in talks with Etisalat for the acquisition of both PTCL and Ufone. In addition, the media went on to report falsely that the representatives of ZONG and Etisalat have met at least twice in one month to discuss the matter on the subject.
However, PTCL out rightly repudiated all such media reports and confirmed that there is no such development going on.
It is pertinent to mention that PTCL is 62% owned by the Government of Pakistan. Furthermore, it is also worth mentioning that at the time of privatization of PTCL, Etisalat purchased 26% shares in PTCL and the entire management as well. 12% of the PTCL’s shares are traded publicly in Pakistan Stock Exchange.
Do you think media should play a rather positive role and wait for official statements?
