PTCL to deploy 789 kilometer fiber line after signing leasing agreement with ZONG

Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) and telecom operator ZONG have inked a fiber optic leasing agreement. To enable quality and superior telecommunication services for Pakistani market, PTCL will install 789 kilometer fiber line for ZONG. For the same, an agreement was penned down between two companies.

According to the agreement, the telecom operator will be able to exploit PTCL’s extensive fiber optic footprint. Moreover, it will also enable ZONG to utilize PTCL’s expertise in deploying, operating and maintaining a fiber optic network.

The agreement further entails that PTCL will install, operate and look after 789 kilometer fiber line for ZONG. It will connect ZONG’s Base Transceiver Station (BTS) for data back-hauling.

Strategic agreement – way forward

The strategic partnership between the two companies is a step forward based on the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which was signed in December last year. According to the MoU, PTCL was declared as ZONG’s preferred partner. The announcement was made for providing infrastructure and technical expertise in a number of sub-sectors.

The number of 3G and 4G subscribers in Pakistan continues to increase at a rapid pace. As a result, the emerging trend is pushing the need for aggressive 3G and 4G rollout across the country. In addition, it also creates a demand for effective BTS back-hauling for seamless data transmission.

This agreement is going to play crucial role at expanding and spreading ZONG’s footprint by offering high-quality data and voice-based services to their quickly growing 3G/4G subscriber base across the country.

High dignitaries graced the ceremony

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chairman of PTCL and ZONG, Daniel Ritz and Liu Dianfeng inked the agreement. The ceremony was held in Islamabad at PTCL headquarters on 17th August 2016.

3- Muhammed Nehmatullah (Chief Financial Officer, PTCL)
4- Omar Khalid (EVP, Carrier Services and Wholesale)
5- Maham Dard (Director Corporate Affairs, ZONG)
6- Miao Qiao (Chief Technical Officer (ZONG)
7- Mannan Shabbir (Executive Director Procurement, ZONG)
8- Li Yewen (Director Network Planning, ZONG)

The top management of both the companies gave emphasis to the need of cost-effective solutions. Subsequently, it will enable the delivery of quality telecommunication services for the people of Pakistan.
