Punjab Government and PITB collaborate to launch official vehicle tracking system

In order to keep track of all official vehicles, the Government of Punjab with the corporation of Punjab IT Board (PITB), is looking forward to launch official vehicle tracking system for simpler checking and fleet administration.

For this purpose, a special committee held its 5th board meeting on Monday in the Civil Secretariat. The boards aim was to audit the specialized parts to mount trackers in government vehicles. The meeting was chaired by the Additional Chief Secretary, Shamail Ahmed Khawaja.

Vehicle tracking scheme

According to the project, there will be two parts in the installation of automobile tracking in official government vehicles.

In the first part, ‘XML’ tracking system will be installed in 500 vehicles. It will have a place with service and general administration department, the wellbeing division, farming office, extract and tax assessment office. According to a gratuity this process will be completed by 31st December 2016.

On the other hand, remaining 3500 vehicles will be covered in the second part. These vehicles, belonging to a wide range of government offices, including every single regulatory office and their representative field workplace will be equipped with the latest tracking system.

In addition, the second part will also cover 2575 vehicles that belong to services and general administration department of Punjab.

Implementation of the program

The PITB will handle the performance of these two parts. The expenses for installing the tracking devices will be taken care of by the self-governing departments and not by the government.

The vehicle tracking system will provide great benefits to the government by recovering stolen cars, even with a custom number plate. Furthermore, the tracking of prohibited utilization of vehicles will also decline due to the new vehicle tracking system.

It is often heard that government vehicles are personally used by their servants when it is prohibited. It is expected that this practice will be ceased with the installation of these tracking devices. Additionally, the government ought to make trackers which are effortlessly noticeable in the event of altering or expulsion.
