The only entry from Pakistan in the list of 30 most influential teens this year was 17-year old Sumail Hassan. The prodigy is well-known for winning the 2015 edition of DOTA of The International, an e-sports event with the largest prize in the world. In addition, he is also the youngest to win $1 million award while playing competitive video games.

The genius hails from Karachi who started playing DOTA at the tender age of 7. His parents started to get worried about his future after Sumail developed enormous interest in the game by 10. The whiz kid spent too little time in his studies. He disbursed plenty of his energy scraping up impressive amateur credentials in DOTA2.

In an interview to a foreign magazine, he confessed that he had to sell his bike in order spend some more time while playing video games. He stated:

“I lived in Pakistan for 15 years. Growing up, I wanted to play so bad that I sold my bike just to be able to play for more hours”

Sumail’s mother who used to remain worried about his future is now his biggest supporter. She said:

“He’s really ambitious. He’s always been saying to his mom and dad: ‘let me do this and oneday I will make you all really proud of me!’ And he’s doing it, he’s on his right path”

Along with his family, Sumail moved to US back in 2014. He puts his family first since they let him do what he actually wanted to do. He spent some chunk of his prize money recently to buy a house for his parents and siblings. His current prize money stands at whopping $2.3 million and counting.
