Two delegates selected for Telenor Youth Forum 2016

Telenor Pakistan has announced two delegates, Mehroze Munawar and Sajawal Waseem, for its signature event Telenor Youth Forum 2016. The theme of this year’s forum is ‘digitization for peace’. Both the young delegates will travel to Oslo, Norway later this year to share their ideas and opinions on the topic.

As many as 26 brilliant millennials were selected from 13 markets of Telenor. They were shortlisted from a massive pool of 5000 applicants. Telenor Youth Forum is a program which is run by Telenor and Nobel Peace Center. It is aimed to empower the youth to resolve social issues with the help of technology.

Brief overview about the delegates

Following is a short brief about the two delegates which are selected for Telenor Youth Forum 2016:

1- Mehroze Munawar hails from Karachi and she is a student of management sciences. She is looking forward to discover innovative solutions to social challenges through digitization.

2- Sajawal Waseem is also a management sciences students and he hails from Lahore. He is tech-nut who is really pumped to simplify complicating thoughts with the help of technology.

More than 2700 applicants submitted their application for Telenor Youth Forum. However, only aforementioned 2 delegates got selected after a series of essay, video interviews, event appearances and other screenings.

While congratulating the delegates, the CEO of Telenor Pakistan stated:

“Youth constitutes majority of Pakistan’s population and are early adopters of technology than any other age group; which is why their participation in uplifting the country towards a digital future has monumental importance. Telenor Pakistan aims to encourage Pakistani youth to use information, communication and digital technology to bring about positive social change and empower societies around them”

About the program

The one-year program will kick off from 8th December in Oslo during Nobel Peace Prize Week. The delegates will participate in different workshops, activities and attend the coveted Nobel Peace Prize ceremony and the concert. Moreover, they will also work with teams to find out solutions to social challenges.

Once the Oslo event gets finished on 11th December, teams will be connected through virtual teamwork followed by a meet-up in Bangkok in May next year.

In addition, Telenor has also invited service design agency, Livework to support the young delegates in designing solutions. Moreover, an expert mentor will guide each team throughout the year as will look to develop their solutions.

Moving forward

Telenor Youth Forum 2016 is a one-year long program which will conclude in October 2017. The second event for the delegates will be hosted in Bangkok next year in May. It is worth mentioning that this program will be the chief landmark for the teams as they will practically work to implement their solutions on social challenges.

A jury of experts and Telenor will evaluate the hard work of the teams after which they will announce a winning team. Subsequently, the winning team will travel to Oslo in December in 2017 to motivate the next batch of TYF participants.
