What do you get when you bring a two times former world boxing champion and exuberant fans of a world class energy drink? – An amazing duel that tested the strength and endurance as much as the mental fortitude that goes with it. If you haven’t already heard of the #StingChallenge, you have probably been living under a rock, it would seem.
The makers of Pakistan’s premium energy drink had its millions of fans in a tizzy when the brand brought Amir Khan on board to promote boxing in Pakistan. Amir Khan, though needs no introduction, is a Pakistani British boxer who has been the world boxing champion, not once but two times. Amir is also the youngest ever Olympic boxing medalist.
The stage was set and Amir didn’t disappoint his fans. He urged fans and worked them into a frenzy through facebook and twitter through regular interactions.
Imagine an icon pushing you to do better! The fans lapped it up with both hands and the challenges began.
The first challenge set by the Stingers was to perform 420 skips in a minute. Amir who trains for hours and has truckloads of energy seemed up to the task. But, in this challenge the fans got an edge over the Khan.
The scoreline: Stingers – 1 King Khan – 0.
Undeterred by the setback, the champion came back twice as strong and showed what determination and grit can bring. His high energy and immense power were put to the task with the Stingers setting a target of 1049 pounds power punch in the second challenge. Sure enough, a tough ask. But this time Amir did not disappoint and hit back with a punch twice as powerful with 2056 pounds.
The scoreline: Stingers – 1 King Khan – 1.
The third challenge set by the Stingers tested the boxers’ speed and ability to react. He was set a goal of 147 punches in merely 30 seconds. Never one to back out, Amir put up a spirited show and nearly scaled the mark. While he may have fallen short by a small margin, he showed why he is the champion that he is. The fans got the final round.
The scoreline: Stingers – 2 King Khan – 1.
