To Publishers Alarm, 32% Internet Users in Pakistan Actively Use Adblock: Pagefair Report

According a latest Pagefair report on adblock, it has been revealed that around 12 million internet users in Pakistan actively use adblock. The number indicates roughly about 32 percent of the internet users in the country. The discovery has come as an alarm to the internet publishers and publishing platforms.

Software of adblock is a shield against ads that encroach on security, occupy privacy, intrude user experience, slow down pages and disburse the bandwidth.

What Does The Report Reveal?

The latest report on adblock showcases joint adblock numbers of desktop and mobile devices across the world. The usage of mobile adblock is speedily increasing with every passing day in Asia. In addition, the trend is expected to hit Europe and North America pretty soon as well.

As far as Pakistan is concerned, only 2 percent internet users use adblock on the desktop while 32 percent (around 12 million) use it on mobile. Roughly 125 million internet users in India use adblock on mobile, as per the report.

In addition, 34 percent of the men are likely to use adblock on their desktop and laptop in comparison to women.

Why Do Individuals Use Adblock?

The motivation and the real causes behind the usage of adblock are quite a few:

  • Exposure to malware and viruses
  • Interruption
  • Speed issues – websites take lot of time to load
  • Number of ads on webpages
  • Privacy and tracking by unknown parties
  • Poor frequency capping

Publishers Lose Revenue if People Use Adblock

When an individual uses adblock, publishers lose a part of the revenue; since they depend on Google’s AdSense to make money. This is the reason web hosts use adblock walls which do not let the users view the websites until a user turns off the adblock. In addition, the report reveals that 74 percent users close the website when they come across such walls. Primarily, they leave the website since they do not like the interruption while they are browsing.
