In an effort to magnify its consumer reach, Uber is all set to launch Rickshaw service in Pakistan. The global cab e-hailing service will initiate its Rickshaw operation from Lahore as reported by ProPakistani.
There are no second thoughts that Rickshaw service is one of the cheapest modes of transportation across the country. In big cities like Karachi and Lahore, many people utilize of the services of Rickshaw while moving from one destination to another.
Last year, cab service Careem initiated and augmented its services across Pakistan. In addition, Uber also launched the cab service last month in Lahore. More, they also pushed its services to Karachi and currently working upon to launch its service in Islamabad too.
UberAuto
The Rickshaw service of Uber is titled as UberAuto. The prime objective behind the introduction of UberAuto in Pakistan is to capture the rather big market. Additionally, there is not a single competitor in the country as yet. This gives an opportunity to Uber to seize the market in Pakistan.
It is pertinent to mention that Pakistan is not the first country where Uber has added Rickshaws to its fleet. Uber launched Rickshaw service in Delhi last year under the UberAuto brand. However, the service got shut after 9 months due to scaling. Reportedly Uber relaunched their Rickshaw service in Indian city of Bhubaneswar this year. On the other hand, Uber also started Rickshaw service in Egypt earlier this year under UberTukTuk.
Moving forward
Once the service gets launched, Uber will be getting a larger consumer reach. Moreover, it is expected the rates would be nominal and it might be priced lower than Rs. 6.84/km rate of UberGO.
With the beginning of UberAuto, the home-grown rickshaw hailing service Travly will get a massive dent. The startup that operates out of Lahore recently raised $200,000 in the seed funding round from Cres Ventures.
Do you think Uber has taken a great initiative to launch Rickshaw service in Pakistan?
