A young Pakistani student has proved his mantle with his impressive volunteer work with migrant communities and has been awarded one of the most prestigious youth award by the Australian state of Victoria.
Khurram Jahangir Khan, a 20 year old passionate individual and a former student of The City School PAF chapter, has secured highest award for his efforts within a span of three years. The award was given to him by the Australian Council on 1st July as part of their Victoria Day festivities.
Jahangir Khan inspired by the true spirit of volunteerism
Jahangir, the budding talent and a student of University of Melbourne Biomedical stated:
“I was inspired by our culture of generosity and selfless care. But I must acknowledge, exceptional people including Sir Abdul Sattar Edhi, Dr Adeeb Rizvi and Dame Elizabeth Murdoch who played a huge role in shaping my passions”
His impeccable commitment to volunteer work is evident in his views as he further said:
“Volunteerism is a core element of leadership, as I sometimes say, it teaches the true subjects of life; the chemistry of a community and the physics of a society. Moreover, joining Sudanese Australian Integrated Learning Program, directly linked me to migrant communities and refugees”
Currently he is involved with many local and foreign organizations in Victoria including Sudanese Australian Integrated Learning (SAIL), where he is the coordinator and mentor for migrants with a non-English background. He is also an Alumni Representative for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards Victoria where his core responsibility is to shape leadership avenues for other participants. Apart from being an active member of the Rotary Club, he is also representing student body at the University of Melbourne.
Awards and Accolades
This is not the first time Jahangir Khan has been bestowed upon any award as his success dates a few years back. He was named Resident Volunteer of the year- Victorian Premier’s Volunteer Award 2014 for his extensive contribution to the Australian and international community.
Wyndham city council acknowledged his contribution by presenting him with Mayoral Youth Award during May 2014 for ‘volunteering, community service and leadership.’
Before heading to Australia, he was also the best choice for ‘Student of the Year 2013’ at the City School PAF Chapter, A level section. Later, migrating to City School (Melbourne), he continued his achievement stride and extensively contributed in volunteer and charity work which led him to become the President of the outreach society during 2012-13.
