PSEB Promoting Capacity Building Programs To Support IT Industry

According to the official sources, the Ministry of Planning, Development and Reform has approved a range of IT Industry training and support programs for the next five years, under PSEB‘s program titled Enhancing IT Export through Industry Support. The program aims to provide opportunity for young graduates, academics and entrepreneurs to work and to go through practical training in the industry, and to gain the skills to create new and exciting IT products.

PSEB (Pakistan Software Export Board) is an apex body of Ministry of Information Technology, mandated to promote Pakistan’s IT industry in the local and international markets. The board facilitates the IT industry through a series of projects in infrastructure development, human capital management, corporate governance, international marketing strategy and research, and promotion of innovation and technology.

Talking to APP, PSEB’s Managing Director Asim Shahryar Husain expressed board’s commitment towards enhancement of modern technologies and capacity building of IT graduates and companies. Mr. Asim stated:

“We aim to provide guidance to fresh IT graduates, start-ups and young entrepreneurs on various subjects like: queries related to company setup, business planning, competitive analysis, optimal positioning of products/services, social media marketing, international marketing, business financing and exports reporting. PSEB also provides training in relevant courses such as Android programming iOS development, Java programming, Net programming and Agile methodology.”

In addition to this, PSEB has also been involved in capacity building of IT companies by subsidizing the cost of international certification for standards such as Carnegie Melon’s CMMI, ISO 27001 and ISO 20000 for improving Quality of processes, security of software and services. It is noteworthy that under this provision by PSEB over 100 companies have been certified in ISO, 20 companies in CMMI and the other 80 companies will be certified over the next two years.

The growth in IT industry is mainly attributed to the evolving ecosystem of IT firms, professionals and academic experts, which has delivered results as is evident from the growing trend in revenue growth.

MD PSEB further explained:

“PSEB is mandated to facilitate Pakistan’s IT industry and increase in the export of software and services of Pakistan and one of the major functions of PSEB is to set up and operate Information Technology (IT) parks and provide conducive and enabling infrastructure for the development of IT industry.”
