How to Cope With Stress and Depression at Work

How often do you find yourself feeling stressed out at work?

If you think you’re crazy for feeling stressed about a normal thing that almost every adult has to cope with, don’t worry because you’re definitely not alone. More than 55% (yes. that’s more than half) of young adults who hold jobs find their work more stressful than their relationships and most other aspects of their lives.

But we’re not here to tell you about the figures. We’re here to help you cope with the stress and depression you feel on a daily basis so here goes!

  1. Plan and Prioritize:

One of the most common reasons you feel stressed is because you feel like work is out of your control. However, that is not true. In most jobs, our roles are defined and we just keep on carrying on doing work that we have left over from yesterday. If that is true for you too, just make a plan on how much work you’re going to do today and in how much time. Be sure to set realistic goals though so you don’t end up stressing yourself out further.

2. Customize your Desk:

If you have your own cubicle or office and you’re not working from home, make sure to make your desk a place where you look forward to spending time. Customize your workplace. Bring in toys, pictures, decorations, hence, anything that makes you feel calm and at home.

3. Make Sure You Look Good:

How many times do you go to the bathroom or come across your reflection while you’re at work? If you look good, your body automatically releases endorphins that make you feel both calmer and happier so make sure that you always look your best!

4. Correct Your Perspective:

Humans have the tendency to make mountains out of molehills. Make sure that you’re always calm enough to step back and take a fresh new look at your stressful situation so you never feel overwhelmed and always have a fresh new perspective to view your situation from.

5. Talk:

Yup, talking helps. You’d be surprised at how many of your friends would be more than happy to discuss their current situations with you over a cup of coffee if only someone would start the conversation. Talk to your buddies even when you feel like you don’t need to because remember, 55% is a big number and it’s made up of people like you so always be sure to help a buddy turn that frown upside down!
