In accordance with the ongoing prices of certain commodities, the Chairman of Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee – Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman – officially announced the Fitrana and Fidya [for people who are unable to fast] amount for the month of Ramadan.
Fitrana rates for 2020
According to the Islamic principles, an individual will have to pay minimum Rs100/- as a Fitrana. The Fitrana for some of the other items are as following:
- Rs100/- for wheat
- Rs320/- for barley
- Rs1,600/- for dates
- Rs1,920/- for raisins
- Rs3,540/- for cheese
The threshold level of different commodities under which Ruet-e-Hilal Committee has fixed the rate is 2.25 kilograms. As a result, the prices of commodities are evaluated at the current market rate. An individual is entitled to pay the amount as per his/her affordability and income level.
Most of the religious scholars do encourage people with greater affordability to pay the Fitrana from the higher slabs. On the other hand, middle class people and individuals with lower income can pay Fitrana from the lower slabs. However, this is NOT mandatory. Anyone can select any aforementioned slab as per his/her desire.
Essentially, Fitrana is a charity which every individual is bound to pay before Eid-ul-Fitar prayers. Typically, head of the family pays this amount; however, it is recommended if everyone can this amount himself/herself.
Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman, during the press conference, stated that the most deserving people for Sadqa-e-Fitar are the ones in need

Fidya rates for 2020
Many individuals – particularly old-aged, expected mothers and those who are having health issues – are unable to fast during Ramadan. As a result, they pay Roza Fidya to the under-privileged individuals.
The slabs under which Fidya rates are fixed are as under:
- Rs3,750 for wheat
- Rs9,600 for barley
- Rs48,000 for dates
- Rs57,600 for raisins
- Rs106,200 for cheese
