On Monday, the tech giant affirmed that they are investigating all the aforementioned issues. Subsequently, they have released their first findings, which Google has put up here in detail.

According to Google, there have no quality compromises in the said products, however, they are inclined to make few software changes besides prolonging the warranty of the smartphones.

What have the findings revealed?

Regarding the display’s colors, the VP of Engineering at Google, Seang Chau stressed:

“We’ve received some feedback about the Pixel 2 XL displays not appearing as saturated as other phones. We attribute this perception to our choice to calibrate the Pixel 2 XL for delivering natural, accurate colors, taking advantage of the new color management support in Android 8.0 Oreo.”

He added:

“Based on the feedback we’ve received since announcing Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, we learned that some users do want even more vibrant colors. So, through a software update to Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, we will soon be adding a new “saturated” color mode.”

The aforementioned statement indicates that Google is liking the look of the colors on the device; however, they are going to make an addition of ‘saturated’ mode through a software update. It is pertinent to mention that the device also houses a ‘Vivid’ mode which essentially squeezes the display colors a fraction. Nevertheless, the ‘saturated’ mode is likely going to take things a little forward.

Conversely, Seang Chau said regarding the ‘burn-in’ effect:

“We’ve received reports of Pixel 2 XL devices exhibiting image retention on the screen and have been actively investigating them. Extensive testing of the Pixel 2 XL display show that its decay characteristics are comparable to OLED panels used in other premium smartphones.”

Having said that, Google is looking forward to make some changes with how the screen works:

Warranty to be extended

Google will be extending the warranty of Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL to 2 years. It had originally been for 1 year, only. Moreover, the update with all the aforesaid changes will be rolled out to Pixel 2 XL in the upcoming weeks.

As far as ‘clicking’ sound during a phone call is concerned, Google has claimed that it’s a software bug in the NFC functionality. The tech firm has promised to provide a solution very soon. In the meanwhile, a user can turn off the NFC for the stoppage of ‘clicking’ sound during a call.
